Jackie was on Channel 5 News last night, on their 1 minute "Your News" slot, talking about the campaign to save Morden Park playing field. You can see the clip here.
I thought they did a really good job of editing down about 7 minutes of video into a 1 minute clip.
The campaign to stop the council digging up a beautiful open field to build a football centre with artificial pitches is gathering momentum. We've cobbled together a video to show the contrast between the park as it is now and how it would be if the development went ahead:
Jackie (my wife), is now blogging. And she's jumped in with both feet, with not one but two blogs.
First, a blog about school meals, reflecting her campaign to improve the quality of food in schools.
Second, a blog about the campaign to save Morden Park from commercial development (see previous post).
Merton Council wants to sell a big chunk of the park to Goals to build a commercial 5-a-side football centre. The grass and trees will be replaced by 10 artificial pitches, a car park for 120 cars and a licensed bar.
The field earmarked for this development is well-used by local residents - kids play football and cricket, people walk their dogs. If the scheme goes ahead these people will have to pay up to £60 an hour for the pleasure of using one of the artificial pitches.
Naturally, we are campaigning against this act of vandalism. A bunch of locals have set up a website and are lobbying councillors, MPs and anyone else in authority who will listen.
Let's hope the council sees sense and backs down.
